Death

A Death in the family can make you think about life....Which in turn can make you think about death, and just how short life really is, and how you need to make the most out of the time you have with the people around you, because you never know how long you have with a person or persons.

Nothing can ever make sense out of a situation in which a loved one dies, as much as we want it to, it just cannot be rationalized. Some one you loved has been taken out of your life, and nothing about that makes sense , so there is no use trying to understand it.

You have to keep on living, you have all of the memories with you in your mind, in pictures, and objects associated with the dearly departed, and even though they are a poor substitute, in a way they help keep them alive just that much longer

The worst part is having been unable to say goodbye.

oh i also wondered why one would want to get a tattoo of a dolphin on the extreme upper portion of ones backside....why would you want it to look like there is a dolphin jumping out of your bum?

and now i sit safely in san fransisco in my sisters apartment....now to shower and nap, cause ive been awake over 24hours now....and i feel really gross from traveling

Ballgown part deux

I've realized that in making my second ballgown, that I neglected to blog about it, unlike last years which got a few blogs....

So this year....This years ballgown is an 1870's Era (the early bustle period), it began with research like usual...and ended up being inspired by the blue gown that Claudia wears in "Interview With The Vampire"

it doesnt show the colour all that well... but I knew I wanted rusching, neckline detail and blue.....

so I did a sketch...and got to looking for fabric....and as things go..I couldnt find any fabric in the colour that I wanted....so i ended up buying a dark teally blue iridescent taffeta that I fell in love with( I had originally wanted to stay away from teal...but I love it and it looks real good with red hair) and as an accent colour I got a taupe-y brassy shot with black taffeta....for the neckline decoration I got a selection of beaded appliques. Again as with any design project, I did a complete redesign before I started construction, because I got inspired by an antique family photo album inherited from my Great Grandmother(i'll scan in the photos in question another day....I promise)

It took about three weeks of work, for several hours aday, but I was still sewing the day of the Ball and finished it litterally about an hour before the Ball, because I am just that awesome.... needless to say all of the work paid off because I got a whole lot of compliments, and according to my professor it was the most popular dress there(not to sound to conceded here)

But anyway enough of my babbling and onward to the pictures:

Thats what I like to call my little family of cartoon characters, that I doodle, paint, stencil and make into pins....Finally...after being prodded and pleaded to make an Etsy shop to sell my little friends...Ive done just that....I am still working on it....figuring out pricing and transaction stuff... but I've started making stock...so far its just a few little paintings...soon I'll put up some pins...and maybe a stenciled shirt or two...We'll see how it goes....

i've been with out home based internet for about a month or so now, so im currently in the computer lab on my uni's campus...

i designed my first play(costumes) all by myself, it was a thirty-one member cast, and an orginal play to boot....WIN!

i went to a 'red carpet' exhibit opening at the muesum, for a costume exhibit that i helped with a bit....

ummm i spent alot of this morning elbow(ok well it was actually more like wrist) deep in algenate and plaster doing life casts of actors for the upcoming play.....

i've messed up my ankle again due to my inablities in walking down stairs....

umm actually nothing to terribly interesting......

Hey look....im blogging....again!

so um yeah. camp has come and gone yet again.... to fast for my liking...

the ukulele playing is progressing, i played along with two guitars for the thursday night campfires every week... ummm

back at school.... moved in to the house that im living in with some friends...as of the moment all of those friends are all male.... there will be another girl moving in when she gets back from her internship...in january...shes the one that owns the house.

umm yeah this semester is looking really really awesome! lots of neat stuff to keep you updated on! i promise...if not i give you full licesnce to hunt me down and kick me about the knees, shins and ankles!

is kind of boring when you haven't anything to do...

sure i could be unpacking from school and packing for the house for next year, or for camp..... cleaning my room, vacuuming the house for me mum... or a plethora of other things...but...i dont want to do any of those things.... curse my lazy bones.... but seriously these two weeks between the time that school ends and camp starts is pretty much my summer.... the rest of the summer will be spent as it has been for the last six years, in the glorious outdoors of Pine Grove, at the camp that i love...sigh...this will be my last summer there for a bit...as next year i may be in Utah for an internship...which reminds me..i havent been doing nearly as much sewing as i would like to be doing...i fear that i burnt myself out with that ballgown... but come on....im a costume design student...get off your ass and sew something dammnit!

have have sketched a few designs, one that i would love to see actualized...eventually...

i watched a bit of the newest verison of 'Pride and Predjuice' which really got me wanting to make a Regency Era gown and underpinnings...and of course find/kidnap/marry Matthew Mcafayden...nom.....

babble.....which is becoming a hobby of mine, im getting fairly good at it....hmm where did i leave off in this little blog-capade of mine? oh yeah, the christmas craft-acular!(hmm i really like to hypenate things dont i?)

so i felt like being crafty this year, and i was, for my sisters, i knitted one a scarf, crocheted one a hat(taught myself how) and then i made them both felt octopi from futuregirl's craft blog( explore it, she is really awesome)

i apologize for the shoddy pictures, it was like 3 in the morning by the time i finished everything and got it wrapped.... well the scarf actually, i was almost done, and i decided that i wasnt pleased with how it looked so i took it apart and started it over, so everything besides that was already finished.... but yeah thats what i did for my sisters, for mum sarah(hat sister) and i went halfsies on some really nice pots and pans(paula deen) and for dad we went halfsies again for a dvd/vcr combo,

which by the way my father is the worst person to give gifts to!i hate it! hes always 'you shouldnt have gotten me anything/spent so much money/blah blah blah!" to which i want to retort 'deal with it popola! we love you and we wanted to get you this! so we did, and you will like it!'

hmm since i havent updated in a bit i shall ramble some more... since i was on the subject of christmas i shall continue down that path... i really love how i never get what i ask for, for the past few years ive asked for one or two(last year i didnt really want anything) specific items and thats that... no reason to get me anything i dont want or wont use...and every year low and behold i get my mothers idea of what i should have wanted(i.e what she thinks i like/want/need)

i really am not meaning to sound like a bratty little ungrateful __________ ...but getting things that i really dont want or wont use is a waste of mum and dads money, and asking for specifics, and one or two things and nothing more seemed to me to be a good thing.

but anyway, this year i asked for a ukulele and that was that. i really truly wanted a uke, like really bad, ever since i stopped playing the saxophone i really wanted to pick up something new musically wise that wasnt a woodwind... and i recently discovered julia nunes (check her out!!) who is awesome! and i had been interested in the uke prior to stumbling across miss nunes. and in doing a bit of research i found that you can get a decent uke for around or abit over 50 dollars, which i brought up in asking for one, and to me it seemed reasonable.

but alas christmas did not yield a uke, but rather more things that i didnt ask for, heres the run down

a very floral wheely suitcasey carrier for elenore my sewing machine
a mini ironing board (no more melting my carpet at school)
lime green bed sheets(not a colour i would have picked...but goes with mums idea of what i like and in matching the bedding and towels for school that she picked more on that later) they are jersey which is a redeeming factor
polar bear pajama pants
charlie and the chocolate factory dvd
target gift card...not sure of the amount, have to ask as it wasnt specified
and your standard christmas toiletries...

all in all i guess its more practical than a uke... but i still would have liked one. she mentioned that i may get one for my birthday, which is far to long to wait, and she mentioned getting me new and better fabric shears today... so i'll have to take the uke matter into my own hands... which brings me to my next point

goddamn i need money and a job!!! especially for my interim course... making an 1860's victorian ball gown doesnt come cheap, im sure...

i need to get my drivers license, which will certainly open up job opportunities...

i also miss working at the ren faire, lots and lots... and kinda hope that i might get hired back next season(doubtful, rather doubtful, nothing bad, just the costume shop is in a bit of a state of no real designer, and the costume director that worked there isnt there anymore? not sure) it was lots of fun, and i liked it, i like getting dressed up....duh....

um thats all for now...im getting far to good at staying up till the wee hours of the morn.

espesically when i find awesome religious art work that looks like it belongs in my grandmothers house

im not religious, but i do enjoy the art work, i also have a picture of Jesus on an oblong wood cookie, but i am a big fan of the candles, you know the tall ones in the glass containers, with pictures of mary, jesus or other saints on them. my favorite one i got whilst i was in san fransisco's mission district two years ago,

any today might not have brought in a whole lot of thrift scores, but im still pleased

h'anyway yesterday saw the arrival of a package of awesome from my friend Mini from deutschland!!! i sent her some peanut butter m&ms, twizzlers and little things of my making and in return she sent me some AWESOOME german candy.....behold!

Blogging,everyone's doing it!!

err yeah. so blogging in place of studying for an early civilizations....aaaah YUP! sounds like a good idea to me... but seriously, the fail feels imminent.... i know i wont fail, but it still feels that way. i feel like im not absorbing anything, its kinda like my brain has melted, not pleasant...in the least bit....
